With the continued rising success of indie creator Jeff Lemire into mainstream titles, we thought it might be time to introduce you to his creator owned ongoing work with SWEET TOOTH volume one.

The story starts and centres around Gus, a young boy with deer antlers growing out of his forehead. Strange, certainly, but it doesn't seem to affect his modest upbringing with his loving father deep in the woods. All the while surrounded by a world in the afterthrows of an apocalyptic event. It isn't until the passing of his father that Gus attempts to travel beyond the safety of the woods, where he is quickly preyed upon by hunters. Saved by the mysterious thug Jepperd, the two now try to safely navigate rural middle American to find the fabled safe haven for hybrid children. The two form a unique friendship and it is here the story really begins. Will Gus' innocence and sweet nature change Jepperd's dark soul or the other way around?

Sweet Tooth is an interesting beast. With Lemire on both writing and art duties, it feels like a more personal tale rather than a regular artistic pairing. His writing is sparse, yet each word that reaches the page is used to maximum effect. He somehow manages to convey so much of Gus' innocence and Jepperd's inner darkness with very little dialogue  between the characters.

This of course is beautifully married to Lemire's truly unique style of art. At first glance it might be mistakenly dismissed as messy and amateurish but once you read past the first few pages you are quickly drawn into just how much emotion he can get out of his characters with what seems almost effortless linework.

Together both art and writing make for a terribly dark and dangerous future, but not one without at least a glimmer of hope.

Last week saw the release of Lemire's latest and highly praised graphic novel, The Underwater Welder. What better time than now to showcase another of his fantastic reads in Sweet Tooth!

If you find Sweet Tooth to your liking, you might want to look up these other Lemire titles as well.
-The Underwater Welder
-Animal Man: The Hunt
-Essex County
-Lost Dogs

As always, the ALL STAR LEGEND will be available for 30 days (or until stock sells out) at the discounted price. As this will be a limited stock promotion there is strictly "no holds" on the legend,  first in, best read! No further discount applies to the book as it's a pretty good chance it will already be cheaper than the US cover price! The discount also only applies to the volume listed, not the entire series of trades.

If you have any questions, you know where to ask them. You can start to buy the Legend from this Thursday the 2nd of August.
