All Star Legend: Gotham Central Vol 1

We like to use the All Star Legend to help showcase titles around the store that we think are the unsung work horses of the industry. This couldn't be more apt than with this months pick, GOTHAM CENTRAL Volume 1 from Greg Rucka, Ed Brabaker and Michael Lark. The series takes us behind the scenes of the men and women of Gotham Police Department working in a city that houses some of the world's worst rogues, all awhile trying to do their jobs in the shadow of the Bat.

At their best handling true stories, Rucka's and Brubaker's work brilliantly together on this series, to the point of finding it near impossible to know where one writer ends and the other begins. The tales take us deep into the extreme danger and mental exhaustion these police folk are faced with on a daily basis serving and protecting in one of the world's most dangerous cities. A large cast fills out the roster of the day and night shifts of Gotham Central and the writers make each of them stand out. Each character we meet deals with the pressures they are put under differently and ultimately we are left with a series that ends far to quickly for such a engaging cast.

What can be said about Lark's that you can't already tell after opening the first page? Much like his writing team, Lark creates magic when he is penciling real people. He has a rare talent for bringing to life little moments between character, interactions that might be overlooked by another artist, here Lark has you believing you could be looking at a photograph. It's this kind of skill that elevates this books storytelling to a whole different level. Each character is real and the emotion hardships they endure hit home like a hammer to the heart with Lark art style.

We thought it would be nice to bring this title to your attention this month as recently we saw the release of Rucka's and Lark's creator owned series from Image, Lazarus.

If you enjoy what you read in either Gotham Central or Lazarus be sure to check out both creators backlogs:

-Queen and County (Rucka)
-Stumptown (Rucka)
-Whiteout (Rucka)
-Punisher (Rucka)
-Scene Of The Crime (Lark)
-Daredevil (Lark)
-Terminal City (Lark)

As always, the ALL STAR LEGEND will be available for 30 days (or until stock sells out) at the discounted price. As this will be a limited stock promotion there is strictly "no holds" on the legend.  First in, best read! No further discount applies to the book as there's a pretty good chance it will already be cheaper than the US cover price! The discount also only applies to the volume listed, not the entire series of trades.

If you have any questions, you know where to ask them. You can start to buy the Legend from this Thursday the 3rd of July.

All Star Legends. The legendary titles of the highest recommendation.
