New Comics For Wednesday 5th of December

DECEMBER! It's here and you know what that means...COMICS...we guess.

This week is extra special with not only a great week of release, the next Women's Comic Book Club this Sunday and the very special Signing/Meet & Greet event with new Image writer, Mat Groom for the release of his new comic, SELF MADE #1 on Saturday from midday. 

Sydney-sider Matt Groom debuts a new series from Image with SELF MADE #1, Eduardo Ferigato on art duties. The Kingdom of Arcadia is ravaged by chaos, and amongst it, a warrior known as Amala Citlali, will seize her chance to become more than she was destined for. But in doing so, it may bring her face-to-face with the being she calls... God.

SHAZAM!! The name that makes thunder roll and lightning flash returns to comics with Geoff Johns and Dale Eaglesham's SHAZAM #1! Having been mysteriously quiet since DC Rebirth, Billy Batson, the original Captain Marvel, returns as the Big Red Cheese in his first ongoing series in 20 years, just in time to find out what Dr. Sivana and Mr. Mind are up in the Rock of Eternity. At last, Shazam is amongst us once more, and the Shazam family will be right there with him.

The Jedi maverick with the face of Liam Neeson stars in STAR WARS AGE REPUBLIC QUI-GON JINN #1, from Jody Houser and Cory Smith, finally expanding a little on the past of the mysterious Qui-Gon Jinn. Always at odds with the wishes and agenda of the Jedi Council, preventing his own seat upon it, Jinn will have to face the consequences of his non-conformity when a mission goes awry.

James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes has experienced more hardship in one lifetime than most, but having been redeemed himself, he believes in second chances. Now Bucky embarks on a new mission in WINTER SOLDIER #1, from Kyle Higgins and Rod Reis, to find those in need of a second chance, but he'll learn along the way that there are as many people out there undeserving of redemption as there are those who do.

The extermination is over, but not all survived. Nathan Summers, the man called Cable, is dead and no-one is taking that harder than his adopted daughter, Hope Summers. Award-winning writer, Nnedi Okorafor, begins her modern story of immigration in LAGUARDIA #1, set on an alternate Earth where aliens have integrated into human society. Future Chukwuebuka, a pregnant, Nigerian-American doctor, has smuggled an illegal plant lifeform, called the Letme Live, through LaGuardia International Airport. Safely back in her grandmother's flat in the Bronx, but immigration is still on their backs as they try to live in the land of the free.

Big time comics writer, Keiron Gillen, teams up with artist Stephanie Hans on her first ongoing comic with DIE #1. Described by Gillen as "Goth Jumanji", a group of forty-something adults find themselves faced with the return of an unearthly, supernatural horror they barely survived as teenage role-playing gamers. Will they fare any better a second time? Or is their demise an inevitability? Check out the first, oversized issue to embark upon a quest to find the answers.

A new series debuts with FREEZE #1, where the entire human population is frozen to a standstill... except for one man. Ray is the only one with the power to unfreeze people, but he faces a moral and ethical dilemma: does everyone deserve to be saved? Not only that, but can he trace the origin of this event to its source as well?

Mark Millar and Raphael Albuquerque tackle the trope of the "Boring Invincible Hero" in PRODIGY #1 (OF 6), by mixing in several shades of gray. Edison Crane is a prodigy, being the smartest man in the world and the world's greatest businessman. But it isn't enough for him, he craves challenges. So when international governments come to him to solve their unsolvable problems, he'll finally be able enjoy the challenge he relishes.

Stephen Strange abandons the Earth for the outer reaches of the Marvel cosmic universe in DOCTOR STRANGE BY MARK WAID TP VOL 01 ACROSS THE UNIVERSE. His mastery of the mystic arts stolen from him, Strange takes up Tony Stark's offer to go into space to find new magic, and he'll need every last spell he can find, for the Infinity Wars are just around the corner...

A mysterious drifter returns to his old city, only to find it has betrayed him in his time away. His old flame controls the city's criminals, his ex-partner in crime has gone straight and become a detective and that's only the beginning in GOLDFISH TP, not just written, but illustrated by Brian Michael Bendis. 

Yetis, Greek gods and many other supernatural creatures are old hat to the Lumberjanes, all of them able to take the weirdness in their stride. But things really take a turn for the dangerous when a most harrowing day finally arrives: Parents Day! The campers in LUMBERJANES TP VOL 10 will have to keep the supernatural at bay, or risk losing their parents, or even worse: their place in camp. It's another fun collection of adventure from Shannon Watters and Ayme Sotuyo, so get yourself up to date on the latest camp happenings.

Mera, the wife of Aquaman, takes the throne as Queen of Atlantis amidst the brutal Atlantean Civil War, and she'll have to learn how to rule whilst in exile in MERA QUEEN OF ATLANTIS TP. Collecting the complete six-issue miniseries from Dan Abnett, Mera will not only need to prove herself a capable ruler, but also battle it out against Orm, the Ocean Master, who has always craved the power of the throne for himself.

Green Ranger, White Ranger, Red Zeo Ranger, Red Turbo Ranger, Black Dino Ranger: Tommy Oliver has been all of these heroes, but now he must tackle his next escapade without the power of the Morphin Grid in SABAN POWER RANGERS SOUL DRAGON ORIGINAL GN. Fresh off his three-year sting, Kyle Higgins returns to recount Tommy's last mission: to find his lost son. With special consultant Jason David Frank, who portrayed Tommy throughout many years of Power Rangers TV episodes, contributing to the story, get a definitive conclusion to one of the most beloved characters in pop culture history.

Get yourself in the zone for the new movie, Ralph Breaks the Internet with WRECK IT RALPH 2 RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET HC CLICK START, an entertaining, choose-your-own-adventure prequel adventure. Ralph and his best friend, Vanellope will journey across the internet, and you will be their guide. But don't read the entire comic, for there is also a small, eight page sequel to the film in the back, and you don't want to spoil things too soon.

When Eddie, a seedy hustler gets magically transformed into a dog during a con gone wrong, he'll find it couldn't have happened at a better time in GRUMBLE #1. With the forces of good and evil after him, he'll need to turn to his long-lost, part-demon daughter, Tala. But can he rely on a father/daughter relationship to get him out of his latest mess?

Brendon Small's comic extravaganza, based on his own rocking album of the same name, is collected in GALAKTIKON TP VOL 01. Our hero, Triton is the intergalactic hero of his own universe, but now he's faced with a crisis even he may not survive: getting over his own divorce.

It's thirteenth century England, and within the Sherwood Forest lies Robin Hood, formerly Robert Godwinson, and his band of Merry Men. In MERRY MEN COMPLETE TP,  the nefarious Prince John has outlawed homosexuality in his empire, and his law is enforced by the Sheriff of Nottingham, which scholars believe could be the reason the legend of Robin Hood came to be. Be sure to check out a copy, and get a very different, but insightful look into an old tale.

In Kouhei Horikoshi's latest volume of the critically-acclaimed manga series, MY HERO ACADEMIA GN VOL 16, the young boss of the Hassikai crime gang, Chisaki, is working to distribute a Quirk-destroying drug. With out the Quirks, there would be super-powered beings, and traditional crime could spread once more, untamed. Now the Class 1-A students will work to defeat him, but are apprehensive as to why Nighteye, who can see the future, won't look at the fates of the class...

Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang, two of Image's best and brightest creative duos, bring to you the latest, time-travelling escapades of the paper-delivery girls in PAPER GIRLS TP VOL 05. Mac and the girls will jump from the year 2000 into a distant future era of Cleveland, Ohio, and the identity of their mysterious pursuer, the Grand Father, will be revealed at long last.

Olivier Schrauwen puts together six unique short stories, inventive in nature and combine together to form a speculative memoir of the creator, which he dubs PARALLEL LIVES GN. Showing the reader a deadpan depiction of his life, and his offsprings' lives, by mixing in alien invasions, coded messages and other extraordinary events not of this world.
