Phew! It's been a busy few weeks for us but finally it's a week where we can just focus on the important things in life...like this week's COMICS!
Another side of the X-Men's operations in the utopia that is the Age of X-Man is explored in Leah Williams and Georges Jeanty's AGE OF X-MAN X-TREMISTS #1 (OF 5). Not every threat can be publicized, and its up to Psylocke, Iceman, Northstar, Blob, Jubilee and Moneta, as the X-Tremists, to quietly deal with these evils so the public eye never need know about them.
If you're as excited for the new Captain Marvel film as we are, then you'll want every comic you can get your hands on featuring Carol Danvers. In which case, you can't pass on a copy of Jody Houser and Simone Buonfantino's one-shot, CAPTAIN MARVEL BRAVER & MIGHTIER #1. In recognition of her service to the planet Earth, Carol's heroics have earned her a day of celebration in her name. But with an alien invasion threatening her home, will Captain Marvel be able to make it to the festivities?
Just like the first issue, Marvel isn't giving any plot details away for Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto's DAREDEVIL #2. But after that first issue, you'd be mad to let #2 slip through your fingers, so make sure you come back this week to secure your copy.
The last stop before the momentous 1000th issue arrives with Peter Tomasi and Doug Mahnke's DETECTIVE COMICS #999, where the truth of who is behind the gauntlet ripped from Batman's past is revealed. The mastermind behind Bruce's latest pain has to be seen to be believed, and by the time you get over the shock, issue #1000 will be right on our doorstep.
Things come to a head for Batman and the Flash in FLASH #65 THE PRICE, from Joshua Williamson and Rafael Sandoval, which concludes the 4-part crossover, The Price. The Flash and Batman, DC Comics' two greatest detectives, try to solve a cold case before they tear each other part following the Sanctuary Incident. But maybe Gotham Girl will do the job for them, if she gets her way.
Tom King reunites with his Mister Miracle partner-in-crime Mitch Gerads for HEROES IN CRISIS #6 (OF 9), which will reveal more about the inner workings of superhero trauma rehabilitation facility, the Sanctuary. A place where heroes can relive their greatest tragedies, and come to terms with it. However, even an AI program can only take so much, and one hero's horror may be what led to failure and exposure of the facility. But who is the mysterious culprit?
Geeky adolescent Fergie Ferguson and his ghostly BF, Sid, a former punk rocker, are on the run and are currently hiding in London in PUNKS NOT DEAD LONDON CALLING #1, from David Barnett and Martin Simmonds. Accused of a murder they didn't exactly commit, they'll have to avoid not only the police, but also the agents of a paranormal investigative agency. All that and magpie monsters, too!
The Jinxworld library keep expanding, and now it welcomes another of Brian Michael Bendis' first works with FIRE TP NEW ED. Set during the Reagan era of American politics, with basis on real events in the intelligence community, an average college student is taken in by the government and offered the training to become one of his country's top secret agents.
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps were dealt a deadly blow in the 90s, but it was Geoff Johns in the 2000s who restored them to great heights. Now you can experience the rebirth of one of comics' greatest space-faring heroes in GREEN LANTERN BY GEOFF JOHNS TP BOOK 01, which collects Johns' run from the start, which makes for a great place for anyone wanting to check out Green Lantern for the first time.
Kengo Hanazawa's zombie survival manga returns for another omnibus-sized volume with I AM A HERO OMNIBUS TP VOL 09. The cult leader Asada and his followers have taken over a high-rise apartment building, but Korori Nakata and some survivors loyal to him decide they'd have a better chance at life if they broke away. That leads to a meeting between Korori and our heroes Hideo and Hiromi, with a tidal wave of zombies threatening them inbetween.
One of the hottest couples in the Marvel Universe have tied the knot, and now Rogue and Gambit are Mr and Mrs X! Kelly Thompson and Oscar Bazaldua's new ongoing series hits the trade paperback with MR AND MRS X TP VOL 01 LOVE AND MARRIAGE, where you can get a close look at how the new couple spend the rest of their lives as husband and wife.
With the imminent release of the new Shazam! movie upon us, now's the best time to check out Geoff Johns and Gary Frank's revamped origin story with SHAZAM ORIGINS TP NEW ED, featuring a photo cover with the film's star, Zachary Levi.
