Start of the April is normally a day for pranks but this time round the jokes on us. With a recently release new issue 1 on the back of an acclaimed run from writer Mark Waid, we wanted to introduce you to another epic run on the character with, DAREDEVIL BENDIS/MALEEV ULTIMATE COLLECTION VOL 1. So far doesn't seem so funny right? How much is this legend? $17.95!!! For 18 of the best DD issues around?! You're laughing at us now right?
Also continuing with our guest writers here, Tim Hobday, one of our main design guys and NonCanonical Podcast team member has stepped up to the plate to share with us his excitement about reading this book for the first time. Thanks and take it away Tim.
Being a comics fan
can be weird sometimes. It's a hobby that makes it so easy to get lost in a story, or utterly obsessed with a particularcharacter or world. If you pick up your first Spider-man book and can'twait for the next issue, chances are you'll find something you like in the gazillion other Spidey books available at that point in time. With so many books to read it's impossible to read everything, and occasionally something amazing will pass you by. Maybe you miss the first couple of issues, then get wind of the hype when the first arc is sold out and going for a mint on ebay. Sometimes you just miss the boat, and a seminal book
gets added to your list of shame. The list of shame, that (hopefully) small list of books that haven't yet graced your peepers. Those books that everyone won't stop talking about, that deep down you're aching to read, but for whatever reason just never found the time, or more often, the issues.

They say the first step to rehabilitation is admitting that you have a problem, so I'm here to confess, I have never read any of Bendis's Daredevil. It came out when i had little or no access to a comic book store (where were you THEN All Star?!), and somehow it just passed me by. For the longest time I've been wanting to read it, even picking up some back issues at conventions, but without access to a decent chunk of the story my efforts were in vain. It's a book I'm uncomfortable admitting I've never read, and now, thanks to the good folks at All Star I have no excuse.
In that past you had
to shell out some big coin for back issues, or the long out of print hardcover omnibus, but now All Star Comics are offering the Ultimate Collection to you for next to nothing. The book collects Daredevil #16-19 and #26-40, that's a whole lot of comics! Plus it's Bendis and Maleev. BENDIS AND MALEEV! The power couple of comic books, teaming up for a pulpy adventure through Hell's Kitchen. The book even won an Eisner, so that means that folks who (unlike me) actually know what they're talking about told the WORLD that this book is amazing.
As I type this, a
pristine copy of the book sits in front of me. I'm so excited. Books like this are rare. Books where you can feel the excitement as you crack the cover for the first time, as you anticipate each panel and every page turn. Books that you fall in love with before you even read them. Books where words and pictures become some crazy form of alchemy. I wish I could tell you about my favourite panel, my favourite issue, or the story hook that will suck you in, but the truth is i can't. Instead, let's dive in and discover this book together. Ready?
Thank you again Usagi Yotimbo for you words and generally excitement for this book! If you are keen to hear more from Tim on his thoughts on comics, be sure to check out the NonCanonical Podcast.
As always, the ALL STAR LEGEND will be available for 30 days (or until stock sells out) at the discounted price. As this will be a limited stock promotion there is strictly "no holds" on the legend. First in, best read! No further discount applies to the book as there's a pretty good chance it will already be cheaper than the US cover price! The discount also only applies to the volume listed, not the entire series of trades.
If you have any questions, you know where to ask them. You can start to buy the Legend from this Wednesday the 2nd of April.
All Star Legends. The legendary titles of the highest recommendation.
