DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK 2 for 1 ticket giveaway!

From the fantastic mind of Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) comes Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, a creepy, spine-tingling story, set modern day but playing up fears from gothic childhood fairytales - that demons, evil fairies, gnomes and ghouls lurk just outside our range of vision, and we'd better watch out. Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison), a lonely, withdrawn child moves in with her father (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Katie Holmes) as they restore the Gothic estate, the sprawling Blackwood Manor. Sally discovers a hidden basement, undisturbed since the strange disappearance of the mansion’s owner a century ago. Voices draw Sally in and she unwittingly opens a gateway into a hellish underworld from which an army of ancient, dark-dwelling creatures emerge – small in size but endless in number. As they conspire to drag her down into the macabre mansion’s bottomless depths, Sally tries to warn everyone it's not make-believe – before the evil lurking in the dark consumes them all.

All Star Universe Presents ALL STAR LEGENDS

Ever wanted to get into that acclaimed comic series you've read so much on or heard your local comicbook shop folk rabbiting on about but can't justify that first trade purcahse? Maybe you're looking to get a gift for a friend to introduce them to the wonderful world of comics with some of the best titles around and don't want to fork out too much cash. Well we hope we can help by presenting to you ALL STAR LEGENDS.

Basically, we are going to have the first volume of a celebrated series available for 30 days (or until stock sells out) at a discounted price. Our hope here being that this makes it even easier for you to try a new series, update your comic to trade collection or find that certain something for someone special. This is a little something we have been sitting on for awhile and it pleases us to no end to open this initiative with our first legend 100 Bullets: First Shot Last Call! 

With the recent release of the 100 Bullets Hardcover, the upcoming release of the next Azzarello and Risso team-up, Spaceman and our general love for this series, we couldn't think of a book more deserving to start things off with.

The idea is simple, as previously stated, the month's ALL STAR LEGEND will be available for 30 days (or until stock sells out) at the discounted price. As this will be a limited stock promotion there is strictly "no holds" on the legend,  first in, best read! No further discount applies to the book as it's a pretty good chance it will already be cheaper than the US cover price! The discount also only applies to the volume listed, not the entire series of trades.

The Thing Double Pass Giveaway!

Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman.

In the thriller The Thing, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet. The Thing serves as a prelude to John Carpenter’s classic 1982 film of the same name. Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen, the thriller is produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman (Dawn of the Dead).

Here at All Star we've had great success with some great locally produced books that we've been more than happy to stock in our first 8 months. A combination of excellent production value and brilliant storytelling from publishers such as Gestalt Publishing has doesn't hurt though in selling this work. So it is with great pleasure that we invite you to attend the Gestalt Book Launch Extravaganza!

On Saturday the 29th of October, we will be transforming the store into a hub of some of Australia's most exciting comic book talent with not one, not two, not even three but FOUR separate book launches! On offer will be The Deep, The Eldritch Kid: Whiskey and Hate, Torn and Digested issue 5. If that wasn't enough though, to get you excited an amazing line up of talent will be in store ready to sign and chat about their work to you including:

It's the second week of October which means...well I don't know really, comics I guess. Actually, the boys couldn't be more excited about the first volume of a certain Vertigo series being collected into a large hard cover. RED STATE Two for one pass giveaway!

The 10th film from writer/director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks 2, Zack & Miri Make a Porno), RED STATE unfolds in a small town dominated by a fundamentalist preacher, Abin Cooper. It tells the story of three high school boys who, on their way to an internet arranged meeting with a woman, end up crossing paths with Cooper. The encounter sets into motion a series of events that causes all hell to break loose. A horror thriller that could only come from the imagination of Smith, RED STATE stars Tarantino and Rodriguez favourite Michael Parks (From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill Vols. 1 & 2), Oscar® winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Frozen River) and John Goodman (O Brother, Where Are Thou, Barton Fink), Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner and Nicholas Braun.
