New Comics For Wednesday 30th October

Halloween and our Witchy signing behind us, this fifth week is still plenty scary...just look at the size of this monster shipment and it's coming for YOU!

A new age in the X-Men's history, the Dawn of X, continues with EXCALIBUR #1 DX, from Tini Howard and Marcus To. The home of magic in the Marvel universe, Otherworld, has found new guardians: Excalibur, a team of mutants, featuring Rogue, Gambit, Rictor and Jubilee, led by Captain Britain. But that's not all, for this line-up also includes none other than one of mutantkind's greatest threats, Apocalypse, but is this his chance to prove himself their greatest ally?

Following in the vein of Ed Piskor's X-Men: Grand Design series, Tom Scioli carries on the format to tell the nearly 60 year long history of the Fantastic Four, beginning with FANTASTIC FOUR GRAND DESIGN #1 (OF 2). See the moments you know recreated, including the origin of the Fantastic Four, their first clashes with Doctor Doom and the coming of Galactus. Then witness some you may not have known involved the famous foursome, including the introduction of the Black Panther and the revelation of the Inhumans. No need for volume upon volume of trades, these two issues will give you the perfect crash course in all things fantastic and Marvel, illustrated by Scioli in the classic Kirby style.

It's almost Halloween, which means it's the perfect time for Marvel's ghastly abominations to return. That's right folks, get ready for a brand new era of Marvel Zombies as MARVEL ZOMBIES RESURRECTION #1, from Phillip Johnson and Leonard Kirk, hits the shelves. When the body of Galactus arrives at the edge of the Solar System, Earth's mightiest heroes go out to investigate, but they are nor prepared for the horrors contained within the corpse of Galactus. Infected with a biological virus, they all deteriorate into undead travesties of their former glory, and there is an entire homeworld for them to feed on. Friends, families, will any body be spared the horrors of Marvel Zombies?

In an attempt to have his final revenge on that infernal pest, Spider-Man, Norman Osborn combined the Carnage symbiote with his Green Goblin formula to become the scourge of New York, the Red Goblin. While we know the outcome of those horrid shenanigans, Patrick Gleason, Pete Woods and more shine a light on some of the Red Goblin's escapades before his final defeat in RED GOBLIN RED DEATH #1. Find out how dreaded the Red Goblin truly was in this special one-shot release.

Just in time for Halloween, horror comics extraordinaire, Joe Hill, launches his pop-up horror imprint, Hill House Comics, with BASKETFUL OF HEADS #1 (OF 6), written by Hill and featuring art from Leomacs. On Brody Island, June Branch's boyfriend has been snatched away from her by four dangerous criminals. Her only means of defense is an 8th century Viking axe that has the power to cleave a head from a body, but keep it alive. Now June must learn all she can from the severed heads of the people who kidnapped her boyfriend, but can she cut through their deception to learn the truth?

As one zombie saga begins anew, another reaches its ultimate conclusion with DCEASED #6 (OF 6), from Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine. With the technovirus zombie plague spreading all over the Earth, humanity inches nearer and nearer to extinction, with only a handful of Justice League members standing between the zombies and the survivors. Will they be enough to save the day, or have they already lost?

Last week came the most iconic Batman issue of the 90s, now this week you can grab an affordable copy of Superman's most recognised 90s comic, with DOLLAR COMICS SUPERMAN #75. The issue in which the Man of Steel gives his life to save Metropolis, Dan Jurgens let's it rip with splash page after splash page of epic combat action between Superman and Doomsday you can only find in comics.

From the Eisner-winning team behind Gideon Falls, Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino, comes the psychological nightmare that is JOKER KILLER SMILE #1 (OF 3). The mind of the Joker is terrifying, a black hole that sweeps up anyone and everyone in its wake, to twist them until they're as mad as he is. A DC Black Label book unlike any other arrives this week, a medieval fantasy telling the stories of two different bands of warriors fighting the same threat 30 years apart begins with LAST GOD #1, from Philip Kennedy Johnson and Riccardo Fedderici. The land of Cain Anuun was under siege from the last living god, and their army of the undead, but a company of heroes stopped them in their tracks and became rulers of Cain Anuun, ushering an era of peace. But now, three decades later, the Last God is back to finish what it started, and the old company no longer have the strength to fight, leaving the fate of the realm in the hands of a new generation.

It's been a year since the Sandman Universe was restarted, and now year two begins with SANDMAN UNIVERSE SPECIAL HELLBLAZER #1, from Si Spurrier and Marcio Takara, which welcomes back the fan-favourite character, John Constantine, back into the fold. When last we saw John, he was murdered by a corrupted Timothy Hunter, but now John is back, he's either going to set Tim straight, or send him straight to hell.

In another world in DC's Dark Multiverse, Superman made the ultimate sacrifice to save Metropolis and the world from Doomsday, much like in the traditional DC Universe. But in TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE DEATH OF SUPERMAN #1, from Jeff Loveness, Brad Walker and Andrew Hennessy, the world was grateful for his sacrifice, and Lois Lane is twisted by her rage and grief, becoming the Eradicator. Fueled by anger and hatred, she will unleash on those who let Superman die and cleanse the world in a way Superman never could, and never would.

When you're waiting at an old train station in Russia on a still night, what's the worst that could happen? If you're Hellboy, quite a lot, as Mike Mignola and Matt Smith show us in HELLBOY & BPRD LONG NIGHT AT GOLOSKI STATION, as that quiet night becomes a demon battle between three sinister figures breaks out.

As we stand one installment away from the big, one hundredth issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the City at War arc heats up in TMNT ONGOING #99, from Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz and Dave Wachter. Following the fallout of last month's unbelievable issue, New York City is drowning in chaos, leaving Bishop relentless in his pursuit of his targets, while Donatello and Metalhead have their final showdown that has been a long time coming.

Mark Millar finally returns to his popular time travel series with CHRONONAUTS FUTURESHOCK #1 (OF 4), featuring art from Eric Canete. Your favourite time-travelling physicists, Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly, have gone to the future and are trying to win it over with their new device, the Timehawk. They're a little older, not much wiser, but definitely cooler, as the duo of best-friends embark on a new mission.

If you're already loving the sound of that, but don't want to wait months to get the complete story, then dear reader, you are in luck. For not only does issue one of this exciting miniseries arrive this week, but so does CHRONONAUTS FUTURESHOCK #2 (OF 4) , CHRONONAUTS FUTURESHOCK #3 (OF 4) and CHRONONAUTS FUTURESHOCK #4 (OF 4), meaning you can get the entire story in one hit and devour it in one sitting.

When Spider-Man came back from Battleworld and the Secret Wars, he came back rocking a slick, black costume. But we barely got to enjoy it before it was taken away, revealed to be a living alien being. So Peter David and Greg Land take us back to those original black suit days with an untold story in SYMBIOTE SPIDER-MAN TP. Featuring a timeless battle between Spider-Man and Mysterio, with Black Cat and a secret shame of her past caught in the middle, it's the classic kind of Spidey story you don't get any more in today's comics and well worth checking out.

Warren Ellis and Jon Davis-Hunt return to bring you WILD STORM TP VOL 04, which sees the return of Jenny Mei Sparks. Jenny has been around for over a century, and recently spent two decades of it drunk after having finally seen too many bad things. But now she's sobering up with a new plan, but unfortunately, other parties have other plans. Plans that result in the reduction of Earth's population by ninety percent. Can Jenny enact her own plan, and prevent the machinations of others?

Valiant's resident assassin, Roku, get her own miniseries to display her finely honed killing skills, starting with ROKU #1 (OF 4), from Cullen Bunn and Ramon Bachs. Traversing around the world, killing anyone who dares try to stop her in her path, she will have to sort out a problem that can't be solved with a swift execution.

Prepare yourselves for the coming of a new superhero with PINK LEMONADE #1, from Nick Cagnetti. Her name is Pink Lemonade, and she has everything a new hero needs: a cool costume, a mysterious identity and a more mysterious past and the desire to do good. So how then, you may ask, has she found herself in jail after trying to help a child? If you're dying to know, then be sure to pick this one up when it hits the shelf.

Fans of the artist with one of the most eye-catching, quirkiest styles today, Farel Dalrymple, presents a collection of works never before seen in OFTEN WRONG TP VOL 01. Within, you'll find original short comics, paintings and illustrations, all in her signature style, along with concept art for her popular series, such as Proxima Centauri, Pop Gun War and It Will All Hurt. If all that still isn't enough for you, you also get one hundred sketchbook drawings as well.

With the STREET ANGEL DEADLIEST GIRL ALIVE TP, Jim Rugg and Brian Mauca collects every special issue of Street Angel in one, convenient volume, starring the homeless, ninja, skateboarding girl, Jesse "Street Girl" Sanchez. She doesn't let her social conditions affect her drive to protect the neighborhood, fighting bullies, street gangs, hunger and other bad guys. Plus, she even helps a stray dog and saves Christmas! If this series can't put a smile on your face, we don't know what will.

New Comics For Wednesday 23rd October

Spooky week ahead, we've got our Free Comic Halloween event this Saturday, followed closely by our Witchy signing event with local creator, Ariel Reis on Sunday afternoon, which rolls into the next All Star Womens Comic Book Club meet up! Lots to see and do and that's before we've even gotten to this monster list of new releases for this week!

It's been years since Mary Jane Watson last performed, but as we saw in Amazing Spider-Man #25, she's still got killer acting skills, and she finally gets to start putting them to use in AMAZING MARY JANE #1, from Leah Williams and Carlos E Gomez. MJ's landed a role in a big Hollywood film, but who can she trust when the director is none other than Quentin Beck, AKA Mysterio? The Marvel Universe's favourite redhead finally gets her own ongoing series, and it all begins here; don't miss out.

While he hasn't worked on a worldwide status since the Dan Slott days, Peter Parker finds himself globetrotting once again in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN FULL CIRCLE #1, a mega-sized issue from Nick Spencer, Chris Bachalo, Jonathan Hickman, Chris Sprouse and more. Nick Fury has called upon Spider-Man to help them stop the latest threat to menace the Earth, but what is it this villain has planned from his steel box prison? We don't know, but it must be huge if Wolverine and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham are making special guest appearances.

The Hulk may be immortal now, but Al Ewing and Joe Bennett take you billions of years into the future in the groundbreaking IMMORTAL HULK #25, a comic unlike any other, where the Hulk now rests in peace. Not only will you see how milquetoast Banner becomes the unstoppable Hulk, but also his first fight against the Iron Curtain and their monstrous agent, the Grey Gargoyle. Relive the classic excitement, and amuse yourself by checking out the original ads from the 60s.

In Jonathan Hickman's bold, new Dawn of X, Captain Kitty Pryde and her crew, Storm, Pyro, Bishop and Iceman sail the seas as the Marauders, in MARAUDERS #1 DX, from Gerry Duggan and Matteo Lolli. With the backing of Emma Frost and her Hellfire Trading Company, Pryde and the X-Men will travel the oceans to right any and all wrongs committed against and by mutantkind.

The scariest Shazam this side of Mazahs, the Infected Shazam from the land of the Batman Who Laughs is wreaking havoc in Black Adam's kingdom in BLACK ADAM YEAR OF THE VILLAIN #1, from Paul Jenkins and Inaki Miranda. Now Black Adam must be the hero of his kingdom, lest the Infected Shazam wins and a corrupted Billy Batson sits upon the throne.

If you missed out on a copy of the House of Secrets #92 facsimile issue and really want to see the original debut of Swamp Thing, then DC has your back with DOLLAR COMICS SWAMP THING #1, which reprints the origin of one of DC's spookiest characters. When an act of sabotage is set to kill Alec Holland, the Swamp Thing rises to seek his vengeance in a macabre tale perfect for the Halloween season.

If that Swamp Thing Dollar Comic has whet your appetite for all things swampy and scary, then you definitely can't pass up SWAMP THING GIANT #1. Richard White is a former FBI agent seeking redemption, and his old mentor might just have the job to achieve it in AMERICAN CARNAGE TP, which collects the entire 9-issue limited series from Bryan Hill and Leandro Fernandez. A fellow agent on an undercover operation is found dead, and they suspect that the white supremacist group he was infiltrating was behind it. While he passes as white, Richard himself is African-American, and must now himself deceive a group that wants to see him dead, to avenge the fallen colleague.

A young Dinah Lance takes the spotlight in BLACK CANARY IGNITE TP DC ZOOM, from Meg Cabot and Cara McGee. It's not often that youngsters can plan their future out, but Dinah seems to have pulled it off. She'll win the battle of the bands with her two friends, then join the Gotham City Junior Police to start herself along the path of a crime fighter. But plans seldom work the way we want, as Dinah finds out when a mysterious figure does its best to sabotage her life and threaten her family, which makes her ponder what secrets lie in her family's past.

For centuries, America has been home to a secret war between a coven of witches and the group of men trying to tame them, called the Architects. It was thought the conflict was over when the witches killed the leader of the architects in 2005. But thirteen years later, in HEX WIVES TP, from Ben Blacker and Mirka Andolfo, it would appear that it wasn't the end at all and the new hope lies in Isadora... who has no memory of ever having been a witch.

After ten exciting, action-packed volumes, Kengo Hanazawa's zombie apocalypse manga reaches its timely conclusion with I AM A HERO OMNIBUS TP VOL 11. Humanity is about to end, but which side will the remaining survivors fall into? Will they become part of the horrific zombie hive-mind, or will they succumb to the finality of death?

Motoring on through October with another swish week of new comic releases. Also did you see we've got a couple of ace free store events coming up soon?

Plenty to keep you busy, but for now let's check this week's releases!

Absolute carnage has been wrought all over the world, and the people of Doverton, Colorado are reliving the nightmare of Carnage turning their home into Carnage USA. Having slaughtered the town's inhabitants, Kasady turns his sights to the Avengers who tried to stop him the first time in ABSOLUTE CARNAGE AVENGERS #1 AC, from Leah Williams, Alberto Albuquerque, Zac Thompson and Guiu Villanova. But can Captain America, the Thing, Hawkeye and Wolverine manage to be a match to a far deadlier, more dangerous Carnage that ever before?

As Marvel continues to celebrate its 80th anniversary, Johnny Blaze, the original Ghost Rider, gets his due as three of his quintessential stories get reprinted MARVEL TALES GHOST RIDER #1, from Roger Stern, Bob Budiansky, Len Wein, Ross Andru, Michael Fleischer and Tom Sutton. The first story takes a deep look into what turned motorcycle stuntman Johnny Blaze into the supernatural, flaming skull biker out for vengeance. Then you're treated to a team-up between Ghost Rider and Spider-Man as they battle none other than... the Orb! To round off the book, learn what might happen if Johnny and Ghost Rider were two separate entities, and what havoc that would cause on the Marvel Universe at large. If you don't know a lot about Ghost Rider and want to get started, this isn't a bad place at all.

 House and Powers of X may be over, but the conclusion is only the beginning for the new wave of X-Men, and that wave starts with X-MEN #1 DX, from the scribe who always blows our minds, Jonathan Hickman, with our favourite mutants being brought to life by the inimitable Leinil Francis Yu. Cyclops is the leader of a new team of X-Men, each member a powerhouse in their own way, and ready to stand between mutantkind and devastation.

Longtime co-publisher of DC Comics, Dan DiDio, takes on writing duties for METAL MEN #1 (OF 12), featuring art from Shane Davis and Michelle Delecki. Within, Doc Magnus is hard at work exploring what it means to be a sentient being with his beloved Metal Men. But could there be a new member of the Metal Men incoming when Nth metal from the Dark Multiverse is found at Challengers Mountain?

Inspired by the famous Clan of the Fiery Cross serial from the Adventures of Superman radio series, Gene Luen Yang takes you back to the 1940s with SUPERMAN SMASHES THE KLAN #1 (OF 3), featuring art from Gurihiru. The Lee family has moved from Metropolis' Chinatown district and into the heart of the city itself, and while many welcome their new neighbors, prejudice and hatred is stirred within others. The Ku Klux Klan is at large, with intrepid Daily Planet reporters Lois Lane and Clark Kent looking to expose their hate crimes, but when young Tommy Lee is kidnapped by the Klan, only Superman can save the day and smash the Klan.

In the Knightfall we all know and love, Bruce Wayne was able to reclaim his mantle as Batman from Jean-Paul Valley. But in the depths of the Dark Multiverse, there lies a world where Bruce failed and Valley has become more than Batman, he is Saint Batman. If you're dying to know how Gotham and the world has changed then check out TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE BATMAN KNIGHTFALL #1, from Scott Snyder, Kyle Higgins and Javi Fernandez.

While our real world politics already seems outrageous, things could be a whole lot weirder as you'll see in the return of the Mask in MASK I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE MASK #1 (OF 4), from Christopher Cantwell and Patric Reynolds. Years ago, Edge City was plagued with a variety of gruesome, cartoonish murders; the killer, a green faced goon called Big Head, seemed to have disappeared. But now he's back, and he's vowed to Make America Green Again!

In the world of David Hine, Brian Haberlin and Geirrod Van Dyke's MARKED #1, those with tattoos aren't just showing off some cool ink, but they use them to channel their magical powers. Once upon a time, the Marked used their powers to battle occult threats, but when they dried up, times changed and they used their powers to achieve unimaginable levels of hedonism. But now it looks like the hedonists will have to abandon the lifestyle to combat a new threat when one young member of the Marked attempts to create a form of hybrid sorcery, and unleashes evil instead.

Simon Spurrier and Matias Bergara return to conclude their post-apocalyptic fantasy story featuring a man and his mutant unicorn with CODA TP VOL 03. Hum's life is full of highs and lows, and now he's hit his all time low when his wife, for whom he set out to on his quest to cure her illness, has left him. But it only gets worse as he's left alone in the barren wastelands by his trusted mutant unicorn too; left to pick up the remaining pieces of his shattered reality and try to move on and forge a new life.

There's a real treat for Steven Universe fans here as PUG DAVIS TP, from creator of Steven Universe, Rebecca Sugar, hits the shelves. Pug Davis is a gruff space hero, renowned for his stupendous feats of braver; he also has the head of a pug. His partner is the sensitive Blouse, who is the total opposite of Pug, but together, they fight and defeat threats from across the galaxy so that you don't have to worry about them on Earth. Come for the space battles, stay for the clash of personalities!

Christine is an everyday youngster living in a Chinese-American suburb, but she is enamored by another girl her age who lives in the same suburb, Moon. Moon is everything that Christine isn't: confident, artistic and impulsive; so when Moon suddenly becomes her next-door neighbor, two unlikely friends soon become best friends in STARGAZING GN, from Jen Wang. Television and entertainment as we know it today is completely different to what it was five or six decades ago, and for that, we have Rod Serling to thank when he revolutionised storytelling for the small screen.
