ASCM Tee's going back to print!
Have you grabbed yourself an ASCM official t-shirt yet? Or perhaps you wanted to but the size or design you were after had already sold out. Troy will be setting the All Star printing press back up again next week. If you like, now is your chance to put an order in for the shirt your choice.
Here are a few pics of the current design catalogue.
Don't see anyting you like? Well, we are going back to the drawing board to develop more designs and will hopefully have them up for your inspection soon!
All shirts are $25 and are available in S to XL, with other sizes upon request. We also don't mind printing on a tee that you provide, which obviously makes it cheaper for you.
Email us or let us know on Facebook what you are after.
Cheers!

Cowboys and Aliens Competition!
Thanks to Paramount Pictures Australia we have 12 double passes to give away for the upcoming science fiction western from Jon Favreau (Iron Man) Cowboys and Aliens.
Since we had so many great artistic entries to our Super 8 competition we've decided to once again split the passes across art and words so your two ways to enter are as follows.
1. E-mail us a drawing of an Alien dressed as a cowboy. It can be any type of alien but we've found funny will probably work for you. These will then be put up in a Facebook album for everyone to vote on. Entries are due by midnight Sunday the 31st of July. Voting will then run for a week and be drawn decided on the 8th of August.
2. Make a comment below, on Facebook or on Twitter telling us a team up or clash of your favourite Cowboy and your favourite Alien. These entries will then go into the famous All Star barrel and prizes will be drawn at midday on Monday the 1st of August.
Big thanks once again to Paramount Pictures Australia for these prizes.

Press Release: In brightest day, in blackest night...
RYAN REYNOLDS to shine at the Australian
premiere of GREEN LANTERN
Ryan Reynolds (The Proposal, X-Men
Origins, Definitely, Maybe) will attend the Australian premiere of
his superhero action flick GREEN LANTERN in Melbourne on Tuesday
August 9, 2011 before he walks the red carpet at the Sydney premiere the
following night (Wednesday August 10).
Protectors of peace and justice, the
Green Lantern Corps is a brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic
order, but when a new enemy threatens to destroy the balance of power, their
fate and that of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first
human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds).
A gifted and cocky test pilot, Hal
is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and
willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. But
the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the
infinite powers of the ring that grants each with superpowers.
Encouraged by fellow pilot and
childhood sweetheart, Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), Hal must quickly master his new
powers and find the courage to overcome his fears in order to defeat their
enemy and become the greatest Green Lantern of all.
Based on the DC comic book series,
the film also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong and Academy Award winners
Angela Bassett and Tim Robbins.

The DC 52 Relaunch Program
The All Star Universe Proudly Presents The DC 52 Relaunch Program.
Early last month, DC made an announcement that almost ripped the internet in half. September will see a line wide relaunch, with all of their books starting again from number 1. This includes favourite pre-existing titles, and all new ones with some of the industry's most exciting creative talent. This one announcement tore through the comic buying community like wild fire and has been a massive talking point on the internet ever since, and also in our little part of the world at All Star Comics. So for better or worse this huge gambit by DC is happening, so we thought we'd offer a little incentive to maybe motivate some of you to try ALL 52 titles.
Firstly, we understand it is a BIG financial commitment to want to collect all 52 books. If you were to buy all of them off the shelf it would cost a total of $240 ($216 for Standing Order customers). We would like to offer you the chance to pick up the entire 52 titles for $190. That works out to be about 5 books for free for Standing Order customers and 10 books for free for shelf customers.
Secondly, we'd like to reward your euthusiasm for this promotion with a stictly limited All Star DC 52 tee shirt, designed by none other than our design guru, Tim Hobday. The shirt (not available for sale) will be the first of it's kind and like these number 1's, might one day itself be a collectors item! The design of the shirt will be revealed at a later date.
All you need to do, is come into the store and pre-pay (in full) before Wednesday the 27th of July. We can continue to take orders after this point but it would make things easier on Mitch to confirm your order before this date.....think of poor, little Mitch. This offer is available to standing order customers and shelf customers alike. The offer is only for the issue 1's of the 52 range.
So if you feel like you want to fully take part in what will be remembered as one of the boldest plays in comic history, let us know and we will sign you up for the DC 52 Relaunch Program today! :D

The All Star Universe
So here we are at the midway point of the year, and what a blast the last 6 months have been! In the short time since we opened our doors to the Melbourne comic book buying community, so much has happened. We have managed to survive our first convention experience, hold a stellar Free Comic Book Day event, host an instore signing/Q&A with one of Australia's best known comic creators, have a launch for one of Australia's most exciting new local books and more importantly, start to stock a range of top quality locally produced titles! These were all things we hoped to achieve in the early days of the store, and we could not be more happy with how things have panned out.
That said, none of this would have been even remotely possible without the incredible amount of support we have been given by you guys every step of the way. We are humbled that you would choose to shop with us over the many other stores in Melbourne. We appreciate the effort of just taking time out of your day to drop by and say hi, or responding to posts on Facebook. All of this means something to us.
We hope to continue to be a point of interest in Melbourne's comic book culture beyond the whole "new kids in town" bit. We want to be able to continue with instore events and promotions that will hopefully keep you guys wanting to come back for more.
Which brings us to this. It's a little something we've named ALL STAR UNIVERSE.
The All Star Universe will be the banner under which future instore activities, events and promotions will be advertised . We will try our very best to roll out a new idea every month that will hopefully make you want to be part of the All Star Universe too.
The launch promotion for the ASU will of course be our DC 52 Relaunch Program! More details for this will be posted soon.
Again thank you all for your support both on here and in the store. We could have never made this long time dream come true without you.
Cheers,
Troy and Mitch.

All Star Review: King of Bangor
King of Bangor begins in darkness with the slowly rising sounds of laughter. It is an apt way to start a play which is about the voices that haunt the writer. Slowly, as the lights fade up, the assault on the senses becomes overwhelming as the audience enters the mind of one Stephen King.
The play is a love letter to the mind of the well known author. A play that like one of King’s meta works, blurs the lines between the real and imagined. The supernatural antagonist element so common to the authors works comes from the voices seemingly fighting for King’s attention. The viewer is left to question which of these characters who shift in and out of the stage are real. This is particularly driven by the fact that the actors playing these voices take on multiple characters through the duration.
The set up of the stage maintains King as the central figure with his typewriter. This staging gives the effect that everything happening around the writer spirals from mind and machine. In spite of the fact that the characters which haunt him largely give voice to the story, King himself still feels lonely at times disconnected from the action. Interaction with the characters often feels as though King is being playful and this is largely true until it becomes overwhelming. The lonely sound of the violin will often enter the scene as the drama builds. It also seems to work to indicate King’s own imagination building the drama.
Authors will often attribute their stories to the voices in their head, they write what they’re told. Lee Gambin in his scripting of King of Bangor interprets King’s head as such and as a result, brings these voices to life in a way that never loses the attention of the theatre goer. For long time King fans or those mostly unfamiliar with the author’s work, King of Bangor grabs the viewer pulling them through a psychological journey of creativity. It is the same feeling authors strive for when writing a good thriller really.
