New Comics For Wednesday 8th January

Second week back at it and it's like we never left!
Look at the amazing list we've got coming in for you this week.

Under the careful hand of Alex Ross and Jim Kreuger, Marvel Comics Earth X was a groundbreaking comic book, setting the bar for alternate world stories. A tough act to follow, the two reunite, along with artist Well-Bee, to tell the prequel of their Earth X epic, that begins with MARVELS X #1 (OF 6) In a world teeming with monsters, David is the last human on Earth, and he's surviving on a day-to-day basis, wondering which day will be his last. His last hope for salvation lies in reaching New York City, where Captain America and the last of the old heroes live.

The world is coming to an end, and so are the adventures of the 21st century Spider-Man, Miles Morales. Saladin Ahmed and Damion Scott craft a final story fit for such a monumental character with MILES MORALES THE END #1, in which Miles must take one last stand to protect the survivors of civilization, tucked away in Brooklyn.

With the Absolute Carnage event over, its time to pick up the pieces, figuratively and, in the case of the old Ravencroft Asylum, quite literally, too. As the old asylum begins the rebuilding process in RUINS OF RAVENCROFT CARNAGE #1, from Frank Tieri, Guiu Villanova and Angel Unzueta, it may all be for nought when an ancient evil is unleashed from the ruins, and begins a new scourge of havoc.

A breakout hero from Kelly Thompson's Captain Marvel run gets her own miniseries, beginning with STAR #1 (OF 5), from Thompson and Javier Pina. An ambitious reporter and a beloved superhero, Ripley Ryan has captured the heart of New York as Star, in a way Spider-Man could envy, but little do they suspect the truth: that she was an attempt to forge a Kree-human super soldier hybrid by Dr. Minerva. Now, she seeks to create her own destiny.

With Tom King's beloved time on Batman at an end, James Tynion IV and Tony S. Daniel step in to take over the Bat's flagship book for a new decade with BATMAN #86. Bane has been overthrown, and the Flashpoint Batman done away with, but there is no time for a reprieve, as Bruce has new plans for Gotham, and Deathstroke stalks the streets, with a new contract that will change everything.

A tale of classic, Gothic horror awaits you in DAPHNE BYRNE #1 (OF 6), from Laura Marks and Kelley Jones. Daphne Byrne was a girl saddled with tragedy, left in the care of her despondent mother following the premature death of her father. Left thoroughly broken by their tragedy, Mrs. Byrne has become easy prey for occultists, looking to make a quick buck by promising to connect her with her dead husband, but their ancient rituals may have awoken a restless, bloodthirsty spirit within Daphne instead.

At the conclusion of the latest Firefly comic series, Captain Mal Reynolds handed himself over to the Alliance. A heroic gesture, sure, but it turns out they weren't after him, they were after his mother, Ma Reynolds! Now, in FIREFLY OUTLAW MA REYNOLDS #1 from Greg Pak and Davide Gianfelice, Mal must race against the clock to find his mother, lest she be captured by the dreaded Alliance, a secret between mother and son be exposed.
The new year of Firefly comics kicks off here, don't miss it.

Get some more Stranger Things in your life by picking up a copy of STRANGER THINGS INTO THE FIRE #1 (OF 4), from Jody Houser, Ryan Kelly and Le Beau L. Underwood. When the nefarious, immoral Dr. Brenner's laboratory is shutdown, one of his test subjects, a pyrokinetic known as Nine, is missing. Now, two earlier escapees from the lab, who have forged a new life together, are out to find Nine and prevent them from inflicting fiery harm, on themselves or others.

Following the finale of the epic City At War story line, Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz and Sophie Campbell begin the next era of TMNT with TMNT ONGOING #101. New York City has been irrevocably changed, with new factions and new enemies springing up. Now, the Turtles must find a way to survive in this terrifying new landscape, with the small amount of allies left that they can call upon.

In a new miniseries from Matt Hawkins and Colleen Doran, the people of Earth suffer a major outbreak of disease, as hundreds of millions of healthy people develop cancer in only a few weeks, in CLOCK #1. None of the world's brightest scientific minds are unable to find a cure or the means by which this outbreak began. As one researcher's wife and his nine year old daughter succumb to the illness, he will race against the clock to unlock the mystery shrouding this conspiracy and save, not just his family, but the human race.

After many months of very subtle operating, Cletus Kasady is ready to reign carnage absolute on the Marvel Universe in ABSOLUTE CARNAGE TP, from the masterminds Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman. More powerful than ever, and with an unquenchable thirst for the blood of symbiote hosts, Carnage is building up to the ultimate endgame, to contact the symbiote God, Knull. Can Spider-Man and Venom stop this torrent of merciless mayhem? Or has Carnage finally become unstoppable?

Amongst the carnage being unleashed on New York City, Deadpool has decided it's about time he got his act together, and commits himself to the Ravencroft Asylum. But Deadpool's not the only new arrival, for Cletus Kasady, Carnage himself, also goes to Ravencroft, which sets up the rematch of the century between the Merc with a Mouth and the souped-up serial killer. If you want to know how this rematch goes down, make sure you get a copy of ABSOLUTE CARNAGE VS DEADPOOL TP, from Frank Tieri, Emily Lerner and Marcelo Ferreira.

If those two books weren't enough Absolute Carnage for you, and you still want more, then don't forget to grab a copy of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN BY NICK SPENCER TP VOL 06 ABSOLUTE CARNAG, from Nick Spencer, Ryan Ottley and Patrick Gleason. Peter Parker already has a lot to deal with after Mary Jane's surprise decision, but now things get even worse when Carnage is back in town, and painting the town red. Seeking the head of the recent Red Goblin, Norman Osborn, is Peter going into the fight of his life... to save his biggest foe?

Following his triumphant recovery from a horrible death in the War of the Realms, Loki, the Norse God of Mischief, is back once more, and this time, he's one of Earth's mightiest heroes. At least, that's what Thor is going to make sure of in LOKI TP, from Daniel Kibblesmith and Oscar Bazaldua. But with very little hero experience, Loki seeks out advice from one of the best: Tony Stark, the invincible Iron Man. But Tony has had enough run ins with the trickster deity to make him wary, so can Loki convince Stark of his good will, or will his journey to be a hero come to a very abrupt halt?

The people of Earth have reached their darkest hour and they're in need of a superhero to save them, more than ever before. The good news is that they there is a superhero in town, but the bad news is: he couldn't care less about the common man. That superhero is Peter Cannon, better known as Thunderbolt, and now you can witness the ultimate deconstruction of superheroes this side of Watchmen with PETER CANNON THUNDERBOLT OVERSIZED HC, from Kieron Gillen and Caspar Wijngaard.

Cullen Bunn continues to carve out his little niche of medical horror comics with UNEARTH TP VOL 01, with co-writer Kyle Strahm and rising artist Baldemar Rivas. A team of scientists have traveled to a remote Mexican village to investigate the origins of a disease that horrifically transforms the bodies of anyone who contracts it. The team has managed to narrow down their search to a cave system, but what they find down there may be more ghastly than the strange illness they're fighting against.

The road to the long-awaited Marvel's Avengers video game continues with MARVELS AVENGERS THOR #1, from Jim Zub and Robert Gill. When Tony Stark, the invincible Iron Man, needs Thor and his mighty Mjolnir to help with an experiment, how do things so awry that it ends in a brawl between Thor and that Green Goliath, the Incredible Hulk?

There are few people in the world as iconic as David Bowie, and even fewer as memorable as his superstar, alien persona, Ziggy Stardust. With Bowie being as much a visual artist as well as musician, the only way to truly understand the story behind his craft is with a graphic novel, which is precisely what you get with BOWIE STARDUST RAYGUNS & MOONAGE DAYDREAMS HC GN, from the all star artist Mike Allred, and written by Steve Horton. We highly recommend you listen to the Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust while reading this one.

While the British Empire is no longer what it once was, there is still some foreign land out there they control. One of those pieces of land is an arctic island, which is where Harrison Fleet has been posted to by the British High Commission in BRITISH ICE SC GN, from Owen D. Pomery. While trying to figure out why his government still wishes to hold on to such a remote island and the dark secret it hides, he'll have to navigate life through hostile locals and an unforgiving, deathly cold environment. Part historical, part noir and dripping with mystery, take a chance on this peculiar, gripping story.

Leave the everyday behind and take to the skies with the scrappy crew of the Quin Zaza in DRIFTING DRAGONS GN VOL 01 from Taku Kuwabara. In this fantastical, travelogue-esque, slice of life story, follow the day to day life of those aboard the airship, the Quin Zaza, as they hunt the most dangerous game, and for once, we don't mean man. We mean dragons.

Decades since Jack Kirby finished his last comic, it's hard to believe that there are still any never-before-seen Jack Kirby comic projects left. But alas, there are just three left, and now they're collected for you enjoyment in JACK KIRBYS DINGBAT LOVE HC. The first of these three stories are the very last Dingbats of Danger Street comics, with inks from Mike Royer and D. Bruce Berry, plus colours for the very first time. The second comic was from what would have been the first issue of the abandoned True-Life Divorce newsstand magazine, which has been inked by Royer as well. The last of the three is one called Soul Love, probably one of Kirby's most 70s works, with inks from Vince Colletta and Tony DeZuniga.

Everything has its time, and that time has come, not just for the two-decade spanning League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comic book series, but also for the long comic book careers of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neil. Their journeys all conclude with LOEG VOL IV TEMPEST HC, as all the disparate plot threads left hanging from previous League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series are tied together, and both Moore and O'Neil have their final says regarding an industry they've both revolutionised and are ready to move on from.

Kouhei Horikoshi's beloved shonen manga returns for its latest installment with MY HERO ACADEMIA GN VOL 22, which continues the joint battle training between Class 1-A and 1-B. While the training was, at first, going well for 1-A, they now find themselves having to figure out a way to deal with 1-B's creative use of their powerful Quirks. Can our heroes in Class 1-A hold through to make the top grade, and can Bakugo show everyone in the academy how much he has learned?

The master of horror manga, Junji Ito, returns with his serving of terror with NO LONGER HUMAN HC JUNJI ITO, an adaptation of the classic Japanese novel by Osamu Dazai. The story, possibly autobiographical in nature, tells of a depressed clown, Yozo Oba, as he hides his depression and suicidal angst with a mask. Watch as Ito shows Oba's descent into madness, illustrating truly horrific images that depict how scary it can be to be locked in your own head.

Garo, the dreaded Hero Hunter, has left the Monster Association, and has come across Saitama, the One Punch Man. That's where the story begins in ONE PUNCH MAN GN VOL 18, from One and Yusuke Murata, and it will kick into high gear when King the Ripper embraces his murderous urges and goes after Garo himself.

Edogawa Rampo's classic Japanese tale of impersonation and intrigue gets a manga adaptation, courtesy of Suehiro Maruo with STRANGE TALE OF PANORAMA ISLAND HC (CURR PTG). Hitomi, a failed novelist, runs into an extraordinary piece of improbable luck when he notices that he bears a strong resemblance to the son of a rich industrialist. It becomes more improbable when that rich son dies and Hitomi weaves a complex plan to take the son's place, reflecting the plot of his own poorly written book. Can Hitomi succeed in the art of deception where he failed in the art of writing?

Add the latest vintage style, modern build He-Man and the Masters of the Universe action figures to your collection with MOTU 5.5IN VINTAGE WAVE 4 SHADOW WEAVER ACTION FIG & MOTU 5.5IN VINTAGE WAVE 4 STRATOS ACTION FIGURE. Featuring designs from the beloved 80s cartoon, with sturdy statures that will look good only any display, you can miss out on either of these.

One of Neil Gaiman's most popular Sandman characters, Death, gets the statue treatment, in her DC Bombshells Nurse Death iteration, with the DC BOMBSHELLS DEATH STATUE. Complete with her trusty umbrella and a stark, black and white colouring, this is the Death statue you won't only want in your collection, it's the one you need.

Such a great list. If there is something extra we need to stash for you just make sure to let us know before close Tuesday and we'll get it sorted.
Until then, stay safe, live life and read comics.
