New Comics For Wednesday 10th of July

Look, lots of great stuff this week almost too much stuff to point out but we tell you what, that signed bookplate edition of Brubaker and Philips' Bad Weekend is looking reaaaaaaaaal good! Any stand outs for you?!

If you've been enjoying the new issues of Criminal, or you really loved My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies, then you'll be dying to get your hands on a copy of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' BAD WEEKEND HC. An expanded, graphic novel-length retelling of issues #2 & #3 of the new Criminal series, with new scenes and features added in. See how Hal Crane, who's stuck at an out-of-town comic con to receive a lifetime achievement award, has endured the darker side of the world of comic book creation.

After an action-packed first year, Nick Spencer's run on Amazing Spider-Man only gets more amazing as it hits the desirable 25-issue mark with AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #25, with Ryan Ottley back on art duties. In the giant-sized main story, Electro is on the prowl, and she has Spider-Man and Mary Jane in her sights. Can the happy couple save each other from a sparky end? All that, plus the new, creepy villain that's been hiding in the background starts to shift their plans into action.

You'll be ecstatic for the one-time return of Peter Milligan and Michael Allred's celebrity X-team with GIANT SIZE X-STATIX #1. But what is the threat that is bringing them out of comic book retirement? Who is the new U-Go-Girl? Why are we being taunted with only one new issue? Find out most of these answers when the issue hits the shelves this week.

Get a look into the backstory of the Fantastic Four's most powerful member with Mark Waid and Mattia De Iulis' INVISIBLE WOMAN #1 (OF 5). Before she became the Invisible Woman, Sue Storm-Richards undertook a mission for none other than S.H.I.E.L.D., and now she must save her former partner from certain doom at the hand of deadly, international terrorists.

In the latest Marvel Tales release, Captain America gets his time in the limelight with stories from Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, John Romita Snr., Roger Stern, John Byrne, Mark Gruenwald and Paul Neary in MARVEL TALES CAPTAIN AMERICA #1. From Cap's first anthology story in his Silver Age revival and Sharon Carter's debut, to a deeper introspection into Steve's origin and getting to see Jack Monroe in action as Nomad, this is the ultimate reprint package featuring some classic Captain America.

For fans of Marvel's symbiotes, this is a True Believers issue you can't miss, as the first appearance of Carnage is reprinted in TRUE BELIEVERS ABSOLUTE CARNAGE CARNAGE #1. David Michelinie and Mark Bagley's sensational Amazing Spider-Man #361 sees Cletus Kasady break out of prison, now as the supervillian Carnage, and Spider-Man has no idea what's about to hit him.

After many years of build-up, and months of awesome comics, Jason Aaron's War of the Realms is now at an end, and the lingering plot threads begin their resolution with WAR OF REALMS OMEGA #1 WR, from Aaron, Al Ewing, Juan Ferreyra, Carlos Fernandez and Oscar Bazaldua. From the ruins left by the war, new heroes and villains rise from the ashes. Jane Foster moves closer towards becoming the new Valkyrie; Loki must rebuild himself after the fate he suffered at the start of the war; the Punisher finds that his war isn't yet over and now Thor discovers that he has a new destiny to embark upon.

With the rise of Germany in World War II, a military program was devised to produce a super soldier capable of performing equal to a legion of ordinary men, and they yielded an American legend. But even when the war was over, the program continued, and in its tenth incarnation, produced an unrelenting, killing machine. Find out in WOLVERINE AND CAPTAIN AMERICA WEAPON PLUS #1, from Ethan Sacks and Diogenes Neves, what it is that ties the secret origins between Captain America and Wolverine together.

The Wolverine action continues in Marc Guggenheim and Dave Wilkins' WOLVERINE VS BLADE SPECIAL #1, as the best mutant there is faces the dreaded, daywalking vampire. Both are deadly hunters, but what is it that brings Blade and Wolverine to blows? Outside of being a Marvel comic, of course.

With Jonathan Hickman set to jump start the X-Men universe unlike anyone has since Len Wein, Dave Cockrum and Chris Claremont, go back to when the X-Men were just the latest young superheroes on the block with Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's X-MEN #1 FACSIMILE EDITION. Still in school, with as much to learn about the world as well as their powers, Jean Grey arrives at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. She's just in time too, for Jean will need to be ready to team up with Cyclops, Angel, Iceman, Beast and Professor X to take on Magneto for the first time.

With Superman's Walmart escapades having landed in comic stores last week, it's time for Batman to have his released, with Brian Michael Bendis and Nick Derrington's BATMAN UNIVERSE #1 (OF 6). It all kicks off when the Riddler steals a priceless Faberge egg, that leads Batman on a trail of intrigue that brings him face-to-face with Jonah Hex's descendant: the cowgirl, Jinny Hex. How do all these events link up? Grab a copy to find out.

It's getting harder and harder to afford the luxury of inner-city living, but if you're anything like Daphne Walters, you'll literally live with the dead to get your foot in the door. Find out how she fares in Sina Grace and Siobhan Keenan's GHOSTED IN LA #1, as she moves into the haunted Rycroft Manor. Dealing with a break-up, and being new to LA, she'll find those problems will disappear as the ghosts she's bunking with help her to find the life she never knew she could have.

The inspiration and the inspired meet when DC's Justice League crosses over with Jeff Lemire's Black Hammer universe in BLACK HAMMER JUSTICE LEAGUE #1 (OF 5), from Lemire himself, and Michael Walsh. Though both teams reside in two different worlds, the same strange man appears in both Metropolis and at the Black Hammer Farm, leading to worlds colliding when Starro launches his attack.

The role-playing gamers from Critical Role are back, as the company of adventurers called Vox Machina, for another adventure in Stilben, which begins to be told in CRITICAL ROLE VOX MACHINA ORIGINS SERIES II #1 (OF 6), from Jody Houser and Olivia Samson. The group is tracking down their ally, Grog; along the way, they will lose a party member, only to gain another, all the while learning a hidden secret about Grog's past. For you fans of RPGs, you can't miss this one.

Comics don't all need to be doom and gloom, and if those are two things you and your kids could do without, then you need the wholesomeness found in CARE BEARS #1 (OF 3), from Matthew Erman, Nadia Shammas and Agnes Garbowska. The perfect comic to get youngsters reading these school holidays, they'll have the time of their lives seeing the Care Bears and the Whiffles protect their realm of Silver Lining from the mischievous Bluster and his Bad Crowd.

The continent of Madaras was supposed to be the new, peaceful beginning that settlers were looking for, but two centuries after its founding, war rages on, in Justin Jordan and Rebekah Isaacs' REAVER #1. The new land was festered with darkness and evil, one that has endured the best efforts of the settlers to quell. Their last chance to survive comes down to a group six criminals, Hell's Half-Dozen, and if they fall, evil will have won.

A horror comic featuring an unknown pathogen hellbent on taking out the human race? It sounds like Cullen Bunn has a new book starting, with UNEARTH #1, featuring art from Baldemar Rivas. The disease begins in a small, Mexican town, a medical team tracking its supernatural origin to a nearby cave system. To have any chance of finding a cure, the team must dare to go inside the caves, which features a hostile, deadly ecosystem, that takes them deeper and deeper, closer and closer to their potentially horrific demise.

The latest series in Neil Gaiman's Sandman Universe hits the trade paperback with BOOKS OF MAGIC TP VOL 01 MOVEABLE TYPE, from the talented creative minds of Kat Howard, Tom Fowler, Simon Spurrier, Bilquis Evely and many more. Tim Hunter is your typical teen, studying at school and trying to catch the eye of the cutest girl in class, except that he has magical powers. Magical powers cultists are concerned will turn Tim to the dark side one day, and so, set out to eliminate him. But not everyone is out to get him, as his substitute teacher is ready to train him up.

Local writing superstar, Tom Taylor, has been killing it on his own Spider-Man monthly comic, but if you've been left out of the loop, now's your chance to jump in with FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN TP VOL 01 SECRETS AND RUMOR, with art from Juan Cabal, Marcelo Ferreira and Yildiray Cinar. Whilst Spidey has to spend his time taking care of the big supervillains alone in his main book, this one focuses on his day-to-day exploits, helping out people in their everyday lives.

It's a whole new era for Green Lantern, as the first issues of Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp's soon-to-be-classic run is collected in GREEN LANTERN HC VOL 01 INTERGALACTIC LAWMAN. In this new series, Morrison and Sharp dive deep to find what it is that makes Hal Jordan tick, what makes him one of the greatest Green Lanterns, as he foils the escape of intergalactic criminals; stops the illegal sale of the Earth; goes undercover to join a team of deadly mercenaries and face Adam Strange in a duel... to the death!

From out of Tony Stark's shadow and into the Marvel Universe, Riri Williams is forging ahead a new path for herself in IRONHEART TP VOL 01 THOSE WITH COURAGE, from Eve Ewing, Kevin Libranda and more. When she has to tackle one of Spider-Man's old foes on her own, Riri learns that she still has a long way to go to prove herself a dependable superhero, but she's well on her way. But it's not just superheroics she has to get to grips with, she also needs to find balance in her own life, with her need for independence and her responsibilities to her studies at MIT. It's Marvel action and soap-opera, done the way no other company can, and it's all to be found here.

If you can't get enough of Lev Grossman's The Magicians book series, or the TV adaptation of it, then you're in for a treat with MAGICIANS ALICE STORY ORIGINAL GN HC, from Grossman, Lilah Sturges and Pius Bak. Alice Quinn has always been aware of magic all her life, and was a top achiever at the Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, where she fell in love with Quentin Coldwater and saw a creature of horrific magic invade their mortal plane. But school's finished, time to move on, so Alice and Quentin move to the magical land of Fillory, where all is not as idyllic as it appears.

Did you really think DC was going to be the only ones to showcase their cover artist? Think again, as Marvel celebrates the work of longtime cover artist, J. Scott Campbell, with MARVEL MONOGRAPH TP VOL 01 J SCOTT CAMPBELL COMPLETE COVERS. Having brought his unique, singular style to many of Marvel's greatest heroes and villains, this volume features his earliest covers, and you can watch as he progresses and refines his style over subsequent volumes.

The New Mutants were already a success under Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, but when Bill Sienkiewicz took over art duties, he elevated their success to all new levels. That new era of New Mutants begins in NEW MUTANTS EPIC COLLECTION TP DEMON BEAR SAGA, which also introduces Magma and Magik, the younger sister of long-standing X-Man, Colossus, to the team. Plus it also features the debut of David Haller, the mutant called Legion. Be sure to add one of the most significant comic book runs of all time to your collection with this epic book.

Following the Day of Judgement and Infinite Crisis, DC's world of magic was in turmoil, with the Captain Marvel family being sent into disarray because of it. Billy Batson has relinquished the powers of Captain Marvel to sit on the throne of the Rock of Eternity, and now Freddy Freeman must undergo the trials to become the new Captain Marvel in TRIALS OF SHAZAM THE COMPLETE SERIES TP, from Judd Winick, Howard Porter and Mauro Cascioli.

It was always foretold in Christian religion that the messiah would one day walk the Earth again, and so he shall in SECOND COMING #1, from Mark Russell and Richard Pace. The superhero Sunstar is about to get a new roommate, as God commands his only son, Jesus, to learn how to properly use his powers, following Sunstar's example. But as Jesus learns how his message of peace and prosperity has been twisted by humanity over 2000 years, he intends to straighten them out.

Prepare yourself for more superhero action from Humanoids with STRANGELANDS #1, from Magdalene Visaggio and Vanesa Del Ray. Adam and Elakshi Land have something of a vitriolic relationship, and while they'd like to leave each other, the nature of their new superpowers means that whenever the two are separated, untold amounts of devastating destruction occur. Somehow, they'll need to learn to live with each other, lest the whole world crumbles from their failure.

Clint, Griffin and Justin McElroy are back with Carey Pietsch for another campaign of D&D adventure with ADVENTURE ZONE GN VOL 02 MURDER ON ROCKPORT LIMITED, based on the popular Adventure Zone podcast. Picking up where volume one left off, the heroes Taako, Magnus and Merle are on the case in a railroad murder mystery, where they'll encounter a prodigy child detective, an axe-wielding professional wrestler, meat monsters, cursed artifacts and a surly wizard. This book has everything you could want in a humorous fantasy adventure, and then some. The first volume sold out quickly, so be sure to secure your order ASAP.

One of the most rocking comics in the world is coming to trade, so make sure you've got a playlist of heavy metal music ready to listen to when you read MURDER FALCON TP, from Daniel Warren Johnson. The Earth is under attack from monstrous forces, and Jake's life is coming apart, until he meets the legendary Murder Falcon. Sent from the Heavy to destroy the evil monsters, the Murder Falcon needs Jake to shred up a storm with his guitar so he can be powered up to fight. This book is the perfect mix of rock n' roll and destructive action.

And that's about that...hope you weren't holding your breathe while reading that because that was looooooong! Anyway spot something you like, let us know before close Tuesday and we'll get it sorted. Until next time, have a great week, live life and read comics!
