New Comics For Wednesday 6th November

November!?! Get out of here! Yes, we care not for the end of the year coming around so quickly. The only thing we don't might the idea of is another new week of excellent releases...such as...

Rex Strickland, following a successful trial as the first sym-soldier, was given a highly classified mission from Nick Fury: to figure out the origins of the ancient symbiote, Grendel. Now in the present day, Carnage is carving up hell in New York City, and in ABSOLUTE CARNAGE WEAPON PLUS #1 AC, from Jed MacKay and Stefano Raffaele, Weapon H will pick up where Strickland left off in his mission to stop Carnage in his tracks.

The Dawn of X continues with NEW MUTANTS #1 DX, from mastermind Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brisson and Rod Reis, which reunites classic New Mutants members and adds some new friends into the mix. Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Karma, Cypher and Magik join forces with Chamber and Mondo to set off on new adventures, the first of which sees them go into space with none other than the Starjammers.

Body swapping is a staple for some of the weirdest and greatest comic book stories, but Mariko Tamaki and Gurihiru take it to the next level with SPIDER-MAN & VENOM DOUBLE TROUBLE #1 (OF 4). When Spider-Man and Venom swap bodies, they must become begrudging allies and, dare we say, friends, in order to track down the person responsible for their untimely switch. If they're lucky, they might also be able to change back, but nothing is guaranteed.

With a mutant nation state finally realised through Krakoa, the X-Men need a way to maintain intelligence on the rest of the world, as well as a team of black-ops agents to perform the delicate, dangerous missions. Enter X-FORCE #1 DX, from Ben Percy and Joshua Cassara, as they work towards a world where X-Force is no longer necessary.

Traversing the galaxy in search of his next big payday, lone Ravager, Yondu "Mary Poppins" Udonta, finds himself the star of his own miniseries with YONDU #1 (OF 5), from Zac Thompson, Lonnie Nadler and John McCrea. On his travels, Yondu has stumbled across an artifact, an extremely dangerous weapon, and thinks he has hit the jackpot. But this payout isn't going to fall into his lap, for Yondu must now find a buyer, and there's a mercenary hunting him down, prepared to purchase the artifact himself, with Yondu's life as payment.

If you loved Roosterteeth's hit webseries, gen:Lock, and you're already after more of it, then look no further than GEN LOCK #1 (OF 7), from Collin Kelley, Carlo Barberi and more. The villainous conglomeration, known as the Union, has been at war against the forces of Polity to conquer the Earth. The only people that can stand against them are Dr. Weller and his group of gen:Lock soldiers, a group of individuals with the power to control mechanized suits called Holons. But now with Dr. Weller dead, can Julian Chase lead everyone into the fights to come?

Following the fallout of Green Lantern #12, Grant Morrison has shaken up the DC universe unlike anyone has before, and now the ramifications of Hal Jordan's actions are revealed in  GREEN LANTERN BLACKSTARS #1 (OF 3), featuring art from Xermanico. Throughout the galaxy, there is not a Green Lantern to be found, with the law enforced by the Blackstars, and their method is nowhere near as forgiving. Now there are three targets in their sights: Ysmault, Mogul and a little planet called Earth.

Billy Batson was a good kid, who came to love his foster family, and transforms into the mighty Shazam to fight the forces of evil. But all that is meaningless after an encounter with Batman Who Laughs, the results of that meeting presented to you in INFECTED KING SHAZAM #1, from Sina Grace and Joe Bennett. The brighter the picture, the darker the negative, and Billy casts a bright light, so when he's consumed by evil, how heinous will he become?

It's a bright future ahead for the DC Universe, and you can pack your bags and travel to it with Jon Kent, Superboy, in LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #1, from Brian Michael Bendis and Ryan Sook. In the 31st century, youngsters from across the cosmos represent their worlds as the Legion of Super-Heroes, prepared to stop the universe from making the same mistakes of the past. But it appears they have already broken a rule by adding Superboy to their roster, so what else may they be hiding?

It's the comic all the kids are after, it's TEEN TITANS GO GIANT #1, featuring a variety of new and old stories featuring the rambunctious team of youthful crime fighters: the Teen Titans Go! Sholly Fisch and Marcelo DiChiara start with a story that deals with Kory getting the hiccups, while Ivan Cohen and Sarah Leuver picks up the baton with a story featuring Beast Boy being elected the most popular of the heroes. If that isn't enough for you, you'll also get other stories reprinted from previous issues of Teen Titans Go!, making this the perfect place to either continue your reading, or to start your Teen Titans Go! journey.

One hundred years after the world was devastated by the event called the Plague That Ate Greed, young b.b. lives in a swamp, where she broadcasts her underground radio show to the community. But, tired of living under the thumb of her overbearing father, she's about to breakaway to freedom in B B FREE #1 (OF 12), from Gabby Rivera and Royal Dunlap. Now she's secured her release, she'll find out everything she's been told by her family may be a lie, and they'll pursue her to the ends of the Earth to make sure she doesn't learn the truth.

Lev Grossman returns to BOOM! for the next installment in the comic book adaptations of his popular Magicians series, which begins with MAGICIANS #1 (OF 5), from Grossman, Lilah Sturges and Pius Bak. With the previous class having graduated, a new generation of heroes and villains are admitted into Brakebills, with Dean Fogg allowing the attendance of hedge magicians, practitioners of unsanctioned magic, into the school for the first time. How will this new breed of students mingle in with the more traditional crowd?

From Dennis Culver and Justin Greenwood comes CRONE #1 (OF 5), a new miniseries best summed up as Old Lady Xena. The warrior woman who spent many decades as Bloody Bliss, protecting mankind from bloodshed at the hands of evil, has become the elderly recluse known only as Crone. But the lands are threatened once more by a new evil, but does this old soul still have what it takes to do what she does best one last time?

Just in time for the upcoming animated Addams Family movie comes ADDAMS FAMILY THE BODIES, a tie-in comic from Zoe Quinn and Philip Murphy. Whilst perusing the Addams family library looking for a grimoire, Wednesday Addams stumbles across a tome promising to deliver ultimate power to the young lady who reads it. Now, Wednesday is going to fulfill each ritual contained within to unlock that dark power for herself.

With a TV series well on its way, Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, the original creators, unite to whet your appetite with LOCKE & KEY DOG DAYS. Inside are two brand new stories, Nailed It and Dog Days, as well as a sneak peek behind the scenes of the TV show, and a look at a brand new, upcoming comic book series from Hill and artist Martin Simmonds too.

After it walled itself off from the rest of the world thirty years ago, the United States of America became isolationist, and no-one has seen what became of the country and its people. That is until UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY #1, from Scott Snyder, Charles Soule, Giuseppe Camuncoli and Daniele Orlandini, where a global pandemic forces the hand of the rest of the world to send a team to breach the walls of the lost United States, and as the search for the desperately needed solution, rediscover North America.

The acclaimed duo behind Joker and Batman: Damned, Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo, have their original series starring the madman of Metropolis, Lex Luthor himself, reprinted as LUTHOR TP. In the course of reading this series, you'll find out the depths to which Luthor will descend to just to put an end to the Man of Steel, and why he's kept at what seems to be an impossible, futile task.

If you're after a different take on Superman and his origins, then you can't pass up a copy of SUPERMAN YEAR ONE HC, from Frank Miller and John Romita, Jr. From the destruction of Krypton and growing up on the Kent farm on Smallville, to joining the Navy, to see the world both above and beneath the water, and finally donning the big red S in Metropolis, this is a Superman not of our world, but one that feels far closer to his original Golden Age incarnation.

Just when you returned to your resting heart rate and your adrenaline high ended after the first arc, Rick Remender and Bengal are back with a hair-raising, rip-roaring road trip, beginning with DEATH OR GLORY #6. Glory's father is nearly ready to receive his new liver, all that's left is for Glory herself to race all the way to the Mexican border. Sounds too simple? You're wrong! As she makes her way to her father, Glory will have to contend with all the criminals, killers, mobsters and her ex-husband to keep the liver, as well as her head.

You've already gotten to know Dragonfly and Dragonflyman, two versions of a hero across parallel worlds; one grim and gritty, one all camp and goofy. But we only saw them out of their element, trapped in each other's world, so see how amazing those two heroes truly are in DRAGONFLY & DRAGONFLYMAN #1 (OF 5), from Tom Peyer and Peter Krause. With Dragonfly in his dark surroundings, and Dragonflyman in a sparkling Metropolis, crime doesn't stand a chance when those two are home on their correct Earth.

If you thought Mos Eisley was a hive of scum and villainy, then you haven't heard of a little planet called: Heist! For those not in the know, Heist is home to billions of the most unscrupulous men and women in the Nehring System, and they're giving the Pan-Galactic government a terrible headache. So, in HEIST HOW TO STEAL A PLANET #1, from Paul Tobin and Arjuna Susini, Glane Breld and his band of galactic thieves and con artists are prepared to solve the problem in a way that would make Nicolas Cage proud: they're gonna steal the entire planet Heist.

In Spencer Desmond and Kristian Rossi's VOID WALKER #1, ordinary hitman, Parker Ingram, is about to have his pay grade upped after he bonds with an ancient alien organism and becomes the Voidwalker. Having recently survived an attempt on his life, Ingram is out for good old fashioned revenge, and he has power no-one can see coming. The whole universe quivers in fear as it awaits his wrath.

For nearly a century, superheroes have inspired us to be our best selves, as we've seen across an array of comics, movies and TV shows. Now, Shea Fontana and a variety of artists take you through the most inspirational of all the women, both super-powered and not, in the DC Universe with DC WOMEN OF ACTION HC. Gorgeously illustrated, with in-depth profiles on characters such as Lois Lane, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Bumblebee, Supergirl and many more, this is your definitive guide to the wonderful women of DC Comics.

Your favourite video game heroines, Max and Chloe, are back for another emotional journey in LIFE IS STRANGE TP VOL 02, from Emma Vieceli, Andrea Izzo and Claudia Leonardi. Set three years after Life is Strange: Dust, Max finds herself in a new reality, one where some traumatic events from her past never happened. But the newfound peace she feels will not last, when a mysterious boy named Tristan starts to reveal the truth about this new world.

Three different, disparate people who have never known each other are about to start seeing a whole lot more of each other after a single phone call in the crime thriller NOVEMBER HC VOL 01 (OF 3), from Matt Fraction and Elsa Charretier. With a gun in a puddle, a helping of bad luck and a twist of fate, can these three victims of fate find their way out of the criminal underworld they've fallen into? But even if they do, will they still be the same people they were before?

In the 1970s and 1980s, masses of children were adopted from South Korea by foreign countries, with more than nine thousand moving to live in Sweden. One of those children was Lisa Wool-Rim Sjoblom, who recounts her experiences of a new life in Sweden, as well as her return to South Korea in PALIMPSEST GN. As Sjoblom returns to South Korea, she learns about the orphanage she stayed in, and how the story she was told about her adoption was not as simple as the heart-wrenching reality.

The gripping conclusion to Eldo Yoshimizu's manga homage to gangster films arrives with RYUKO TP VOL 02. Yakuza princess, Ryuko, has finally found the truth behind her mother's disappearance, just as she learns who her true enemy really is. While all these personal discoveries are coming to the fore, Ryuko must also navigate her way through the secret war happening in Japan's criminal underworld.

The line of Batman Black and White statues continues to grow with the BATMAN BLACK & WHITE STATUE BY JOE MADUREIRA, based on Madureira's muscular, ready-for-action posed Dark Knight from Justice League: Rebirth. Be sure to add this one to your collection, and don't let it slip through your fingers; your collection will thank you later.

A smashing week, we are sure you'll agree. Spot a special something extra there you are keen on, just make sure to drop us a note before close Tuesday night so we have time to adjust our paperwork.
So until we see you next, stay safe, life live and read comics!
